Advice-only financial planning is the narrowest way to pay for financial advice, and the one with the fewest built-in conflicts: the client pays the planner directly for advice, and the planner offers nothing else. There are no commissions from product sales, no percentage-of-assets management fees, and no custody of client money. If an advice-only planner recommends a term life policy or an index fund, they have no financial stake in whether you buy it, or where.
The fuller treatment of the model, including what a planner does and does not do, how the three payment models compare side by side, and what an engagement looks like from first call to finished plan, is What Is Advice-Only Financial Planning?.
